Open vaccination clinic: vaccinations without a company doctor

Even without a company doctor of your own, you can offer your workforce vaccinations: through the open vaccination clinic of the public health office (Gesundheitsamt). In Hamburg, every district public health office holds one on the first Wednesday of the month, and vaccinations recommended by the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) are free of charge there (hamburg.de, vaccination clinic of the public health offices). Your part: adopt the date, send a short note, count the trip as working time.

Why does this work without a company doctor?

A vaccination campaign of your own needs a doctor, vaccine and a room. Many companies have no one who comes in for that. The open clinic already exists: the public health office provides advice, checks vaccination status and vaccinates. You make sure your employees know about it and can go. What does the offer look like in Hamburg?

All Hamburg public health offices hold their vaccination clinic on the first Wednesday of the month. The times differ, mostly in the afternoon: Harburg, for example, from 2 to 3 pm with registration requested, Hamburg-Nord from 3 to 4 pm without registration, Eimsbüttel from 4 to 5 pm by appointment only. Some offices pause during the summer school holidays (hamburg.de, vaccination clinic; Harburg district office, vaccination clinic at the public health office). Is there something similar in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne?

Not in the same form. What the cities currently offer: - **Berlin:** no city-wide offer. The Spandau district has a vaccination advice centre in Spandau town hall, Mondays and Thursdays from 10 am to 1 pm without an appointment – with the vaccinations recommended by STIKO and a vaccination status check, but without flu and COVID-19 vaccination (berlin.de, Spandau district office, vaccination advice centre). The other districts mostly vaccinate only people without access to regular medical care. - **Munich:** The health department (Impfwesen, Schwanthalerstraße 69) vaccinates Monday to Friday by appointment only, phone 089 233-66912 – STIKO standard vaccinations including flu, plus travel vaccinations. It bills many of these vaccinations to statutory health insurance (stadt.muenchen.de, Impfwesen). - **Frankfurt am Main:** The public health office (Breite Gasse 28) has a vaccination clinic by appointment only, focusing on travel vaccinations (frankfurt.de, vaccinations for travel and at home). - **Cologne:** No regular offer from the public health office is currently known; for flu vaccination, the city refers to family doctors' practices. Ask the public health office.

Where there is no open clinic, pharmacies are an alternative: they may vaccinate against flu and COVID-19 (Section 20c IfSG, German law).

How do you set this up in three steps?

1. **Adopt the occasion:** In the calendar, adopt the occasion “Open vaccination clinic at the public health office (Hamburg)”. It repeats every month and always shows the next date. 2. **Send a short note:** One message to everyone – what the clinic is, when and where, bring your vaccination record. The measure includes a template for it. 3. **Date in the portal:** Your employees see the next date in the employee portal.

Does the trip count as working time?

That is your decision. Count the trip to the clinic as working time and say so in the note: then nobody has to use leave or overtime for it. What does the company learn?

Nothing about individuals – and it stays that way. Whether someone is vaccinated is health data (Art. 9 GDPR). Do not ask and do not keep a list. Whether the offer is working you find out through an anonymous question about the offer itself: How easy is it here to use the vaccination clinic?

What comes on top in autumn?

In Hamburg, all seven districts hold flu vaccination days on 10 and 11 November 2026, each from 9 am to 6 pm, with and without an appointment (hamburg.de, Social Affairs Authority, flu vaccination days). From 9 to 15 November 2026, the nationwide vaccination action week takes place, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Health that is to be held every year from now on. Companies with occupational health care can offer vaccination days that week and register their campaign at [email protected] (gesund.bund.de, Impf-Aktionswoche).
